NEMBA Trail School, Spring 2024


Join us at NEMBA Trail School, in partnership with DCR. This hands-on building clinic teaches the basics of trail assessment, design and construction.  Four breakout sessions cover everything from bench cutting and tool/group safety to inclinometer usage, rock armoring and adaptive trail design. This course is perfect for riders, trail enthusiasts, land stewards and land managers interested in learning about creating sustainable, enjoyable trails and how to take care of them.

What's New in 2024:

We are thrilled to welcome to our newest instructor, CJ Scott, former head of the trails department at one of North America's premier mountain bike destinations, Kingdom Trails. CJ joins longtime trail instructor champions Adam Glick, Paula Burton and Mike Tabaczynski.




Schedule:

Saturday

8:00 AM - 9:00 AM Registration & Welcome

9:00 AM - 3:30 PM Training (with break for lunch)

4:00 PM - 5:30 PM Optional ride

6:30 PM - 9:00 PM Dinner 


Sunday

8:30 AM - 1:300 PM Training (with break for lunch)

1:30 PM - 2:00 PM  Debrief and Closing remarks

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM Optional ride


What to expect:

  • Pre-event online training module with evening session on zoom
  • In-the-field instruction with personal feedback
  • Four breakout sessions covering: trail design & assessment, basics of trail construction, rock armoring, and adaptive trail building.
  • Knowledgeable instructors with a century of trail building experience!
  • An all-around great time with new and old friends.

Cost:

  • Members: $175
  • Non-Members: $195

Registration includes a trailside lunch on Saturday and Sunday, use of tools, camping Friday and Saturday, and dinner on Saturday.  Breakfast is not provided. 


Lodging:

Camping is included and provided at DCR's Camp Nihan Educational Center, 131 Walnut St., Saugus, MA 01906. Campsite is approximately 5 miles from our venue at the Middlesex Fells.

Instructors:

Longtime trail school instructors and champions Adam Glick and Paula Burton return bringing more than 50 years of experience teaching trail school!  Joining Adam and Paula is our newest addition CJ Scott. As head of the the trails department a Kingdom Trails, for 23 years CJ was integral in sustainable trail management, layout & design, planning, maintenance, winter grooming, budgeting, land manager relations and implementation of a wide variety of projects with professional trail crews and volunteers. Rounding out the team is Mike Tabaczynksi.
